Shabbat Shalom

Dear Friends,

As we enter Shabbos this week, images are coming from Israel of Iran's attack. Thousands of reservists have been called up, and millions are sheltering in bomb shelters. This week's Torah Portion speaks of G-d's love and protection that He gives us, the clouds of glory that protected the Jewish People and the prayer that Moshe would say for the safety of the Jewish People whenever the Ark travelled - and which we say to this day in shul when the Torah is taken out.

We are assured by King David, that "the Guardian of Israel, neither sleeps nor slumbers". and we are certain that our brethren in Israel and the world over will be protected.

Let us do our part by lighting Shabbat candles tonight before 8:05 PM in their merit, to bring more G-dly light into the world. Recite some Psalms for the safety and security of the Jewish People and join us in Shul tonight and/or tomorrow as we pray together and inspire one another to be beacons of light in a dark world.

Hurricane Beryl Update

Dear Friends,

It has been a difficult week for everyone, to say the least. If you are still out of power and would like to join us for Shabbos, you are more than welcome! Just send us an email to let us know.

We have a backup generator that powers some of the essentials in Aishel House, but not the air conditioning. Our gas appliances in the kitchen were working, so we were still able to provide all the kosher meals to patients in the hospitals who were depending on us.

Thank G-d, we had power restored at noon on Tuesday. The patients and their families are going through enough without having to deal with the heat and loss of electricity.

Aishel House sustained water and roof damage from the hurricane and it will be an expensive road to complete all the repairs. Feel free to forward this link - aishelhouse.org/donate to anyone who you think would like to help with this unforeseen expense.

Dear Friends,

What a beautiful Pesach at Aishel House this year! Beautiful Seders and meals throughout Pesach in the Dining Hall, a Bar Mitzvah on Chol Hamoed and over 1,000 meals prepared by the Aishel House kitchens over Pesach!

As we go into the summer months, we begin the study of Pirkei Avot on Shabbat afternoon after Mincha. Join us!

Dear Friends,

This past week has been difficult for our brothers and sisters in Israel and for all of us around the world. We have all seen the images and heard the reports of the terrible crimes committed against our people. We are glued to our screens as we follow the events as they unfold.

G-d gave us a gift of Shabbos - an oasis of peace and serenity. Let us utilize this day to regain our equilibrium and our joy. Unless you are on duty in the IDF or on call as a first responder, shut your phone. Spend the day in a positive, joyous and loving environment.

Our Sages tell us, the tone we set on Shabbat Bereishit, the beginning of the new Torah cycle, will carry us for the entire year. So, this Shabbat, light candles, enjoy quality family time at the Shabbat table, and don't talk about negative things. Stay positive, upbeat and joyous! Let us dance and sing in shul and at home, and G-d will bless us with a year filled with blessings which are just around the corner!

Sukkot, Shuttle Vans and Joy!
